Amaravati, Oct 21 (PTI) Andhra Pradesh State Election Commissioner Anil Chandra Punetha on Wednesday said the local body polls will proceed as per the schedule in all the notified municipalities except 19 in seven districts.

These 19 municipalities are located in YSR Kadapa, Annamayya, Tirupati, Anantapuram, Prakasam, Palnadu and Markapuram districts.

“Except 19 municipalities in seven districts, all other (notified) municipalities and corporations will go to polls as scheduled,” Punetha said in an official press release, citing orders from the Supreme Court (SC).

The SEC held a video conference with the collectors and superintendents of police (SPs) of these districts on Wednesday and directed them to adhere to the apex court’s orders.

However, Punetha noted that the order copy from the SC is yet to be received by the Commission.

Further, he directed the collectors and SPs to avert violent incidents that took place while filing nominations for the MPTC and ZPTC elections.

Punetha directed the police to extend security to candidates while filing nominations and ensure that the procedure is transparent, peaceful and compliant with rules.

Further, he underscored that there was no need for candidates to produce No Objection Certificates (NOCs) and ‘no dues certificates’ as some poll officials were unnecessarily insisting on them.

On October 19, the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSRCP had filed a Special Leave Petition (SLP) in the SC, challenging the Andhra Pradesh High Court’s October 18 order refusing to extend the nomination deadline. PTI STH ADB

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
