Azamgarh (UP), Jun 18 (PTI) A fast track court on Thursday sentenced three persons to life imprisonment for murdering a man in Uttar Pradesh’s Azamgarh district over a monetary dispute.

Delivering the verdict after completion of trial in the case, Additional Sessions Judge Amar Singh also imposed a fine of Rs 4 lakh on each of the convicts. The court directed that 80 per cent of the total fine amount be paid to the deceased’s wife and children as compensation.

According to the prosecution, complainant Harendra Chauhan, a resident of Paranpur village under Nizamabad police station area, stated that his brother Dharmendra had returned to his village during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dharmendra had allegedly lent money to Rajesh Yadav, Ramesh Yadav and Kapil Kumar, all residents of Maroofpur village in Nizamabad area.

The outstanding amount had exceeded Rs 1 lakh and Dharmendra was repeatedly demanding repayment, the prosecution said.

On August 4, 2020, the three accused allegedly took Dharmendra from his house on the pretext of consuming liquor and later murdered him near Dattatreya Dham before dumping his body in a river.

His body was recovered from the river on August 5, 2020. Following investigation, police filed a charge sheet against the three accused.

During the trial, assistant district government counsel Vipin Kumar Giri examined 11 prosecution witnesses before the court.

After hearing arguments from both sides and examining the evidence on record, the court convicted the three and sentenced them to life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 4 lakh. PTI COR ABN ZMN
