New Delhi, Sep 23 (PTI) The Coordination Committee of all District Courts Bar Associations of Delhi has called off the proposed strike and protest march to the LG’s house on Thursday.
The committee has been protesting against recent amendments to the Central Motor Vehicles Rules regarding the mechanism to dispose of traffic challans.
The amendments include the adjudication of contested traffic challans by executive and departmental authorities and the requirement to deposit 50 per cent of the challan amount before approaching a competent court.
According to a communication from the New Delhi Bar Association (NDBA), a delegation of the committee was called for a discussion with the Delhi chief minister, law minister and transport minister.
It said the delegation had a detailed discussion on the grievances and concerns of the legal fraternity regarding the introduction of a new mechanism for disposal of traffic challans.
After detailed deliberations, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta put on hold the implementation of the notification until a concrete resolution is arrived at after due deliberation and consideration.
“Accordingly, the call for abstention from work and the proposed protest march on stands suspended,” the communication signed by NDBA secretary Tarun Rana said.
The coordination committee had issued a circular on Tuesday, stating that member advocates would organise a peaceful march to the Lieutenant Governor’s house on September 24 to protest against the recent amendments.
The circular further said that there would be a “complete abstention from judicial work” on Thursday.
Lawyers abstained from work across all seven district courts of Delhi on Monday to protest against the amendments. PTI MNR KSS
