Ludhiana, Jun 29 (PTI) A 52-year-old lawyer and private school owner was found dead with his throat slit in his house in Ludhiana’s Jamalpur area early Monday, police said.

Advocate Iqbal Singh Dhaliwal lived in Jandiali village and ran Dhaliwal Senior Secondary School from his home.

The police said Dhaliwal was with his 15-year-old son in the house when the incident took place. His wife was in Bhopal to appear for a law examination.

The police reached the house around 1.30 am after receiving information through the control room and found Dhaliwal’s body on the ground floor.

The teenager told police that two masked men entered the house while they were sleeping upstairs, assaulted them, and killed his father. They then forced the boy to help bring his father’s body downstairs.

The police, however, said the boy’s account did not match the evidence found at the scene.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Boparai said there were no signs of forced entry into the house.

He also expressed suspicion about the body’s removal after the murder, saying it suggested an attempt to destroy evidence or stage the crime scene.

The police have filed a murder case against unidentified persons.

A possible family discord leading to the killing is part of the probe, as is Dhaliwal’s personal background, including his second marriage after divorce.

The statement of Dhaliwal’s wife, who is expected to return from Bhopal, would be important for the investigation, the police said.

The post-mortem examination will be conducted after her arrival. PTI COR VSD VN VN
