Latur: 3 minors held in chain-snatching cases

Latur (Maha), Jun 18 (PTI) Latur police have solved seven cases of chain-snatching and apprehended three minors while recovering stolen gold jewellery and a motorcycle collectively valued at Rs 17.10 lakh, an official said on Thursday.

Latur city and surrounding areas had reported an increase in the incidents of chain-snatching targeting women over the past few months, he said.

A Local Crime Branch team was set up to probe these cases. Acting on a tip-off, three minors were held in Old Renapur Naka-Papvinash Road area and they confessed during interrogation to their involvement in multiple incidents of chain-snatching, the official said.

Police recovered stolen jewellery including mini necklaces and parts of mangalsutras weighing around 10 tolas and 9 grams, besides a Hero Honda Splendor motorcycle allegedly used in the crimes. The total value of the seized property has been estimated at Rs 17.10 lakh.
