Leh/Jammu, Apr 17 (PTI) The Union Territory administration has introduced traditional ‘Ladakhi uniforms’ for commercial drivers to enhance tourist experience and promote local culture.

The move was announced on Friday after a nod by Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar. The Regional Transport Officer (RTO), Ladakh, issued a circular making the traditional attire mandatory for all commercial drivers across Leh and Kargil, across all categories of transport vehicles.

The LG also flagged off a vehicle branding initiative featuring a common logo for all registered tourist vehicles to ensure easy identification.

“The initiative recognises drivers as the first point of contact for visitors and seeks to position them as cultural ambassadors of Ladakh,” officials said, according to a statement.

The standardised logo-based stickers for tourist vehicles are expected to create a distinct identity while enhancing reliability and trust among tourists, he said.

“Our drivers are the first ambassadors of Ladakh for every visitor. This initiative not only enhances the tourist experience but also proudly showcases our rich cultural identity. It will ensure safer, more reliable services while strengthening Ladakh’s position as a responsible tourism destination,” Saxena said. PTI AB VN VN
