Kurukshetra, Aug 27 (PTI) Police investigation into brutal murder of a 40-year-old man revealed that his wife remained beside his body for nearly three to four hours after allegedly killing him, officials said on Thursday.
Vimla allegedly killed her husband Rajesh by inflicting a deep cut on his abdomen and was seen putting his protruding intestines into a plastic bag before jumping from the terrace.
The incident took place on August 21 at a rented accommodation near Raj Palace on Pehowa Road here.
The deceased, Rajesh, a resident of Dhampur village in Uttar Pradesh, had been living there with his wife, Vimla Devi, for about a year and worked as a water-supply employee with a company.
The motive behind the murder, however, remains unclear, police said.
According to the investigation, around 4-5 pm on August 21, the landlord heard screams coming from Rajesh’s house and went upstairs.
He allegedly found Vimla cutting open Rajesh’s abdomen and removing his intestines. Upon seeing him, she jumped from the terrace, after which the police was informed.
Forensic examination indicated that Rajesh had died sometime after noon, suggesting a gap of several hours between the murder and the police being alerted. She sustained serious injuries, including to her spine, and was admitted to a hospital.
Dr Gaurav Kaushik, the forensic expert who conducted Rajesh’s post-mortem, said there was a deep cut measuring around 37 cm in length and 3.5 cm in width on his abdomen.
The intestines had been removed through the incision and were missing when the post-mortem was conducted.
The examination also found that the right kidney and approximately half of the liver were missing. Dr Kaushik said such a wide incision is not normally made even during a post-mortem, raising suspicion that a knife may have been used to remove the organs.
Police and forensic teams are now searching for the missing intestines, kidney and part of the liver. Their recovery could provide crucial evidence in the case.
A police officer said the absence of the intestines has also created difficulties for investigators in determining whether Rajesh was administered any sedative substance before his death.
Further examination may provide answers if the missing organs are recovered.
Vimla is currently undergoing treatment at LNJP Hospital. Dr Gunjan Upadhyay said her condition was not good when she was admitted.
She was aggressive and initially refused food and water. Her condition later improved considerably.
