Palghar, Apr 19 (PTI) A 28-year-old man was found dead on railway tracks in Maharashtra’s Palghar district under “suspicious” circumstances, prompting his family to allege foul play and demand a thorough probe on Sunday.
Atesh Prakash Bhoir, a resident of Waksai village, had gone to assist in preparations for a friend’s wedding at Maykhop on the night of April 11, an official from the Palghar railway police said.
According to police, Bhoir did not return home that night, prompting his family to search for him. The next morning, his body was found on the railway tracks near Kelva Road railway station, while his two-wheeler was discovered some distance away from the spot.
“The body was taken into custody and an accidental death report (ADR) was registered. Further inquiry is underway,” the police official said.
However, Bhoir’s family has contested the preliminary findings, expressing strong suspicion over the circumstances surrounding the death.
Bhoir’s father Prakash told local media on Sunday that they find the circumstances suspicious and do not believe it to be a case of suicide or accident.
“He was happy and looking forward to his engagement scheduled for April 19 and wedding on May 10. We cannot understand how his vehicle was found at one place while his body lay on the railway tracks,” he said, demanding a detailed and impartial investigation.
Police said they are examining all possible angles, including accident and foul play, and further investigation is in progress. PTI COR NR
