New Delhi, Jun 19 (PTI) The Municipal Corporation of Delhi is set to introduce ‘Khao Gali’, a night market near Salimgarh Fort, where vibrant food trucks will be stationed every evening, according to officials.

There will be no permanent stalls, only vibrant food vans in red, blue, and yellow serving street food from 6 pm to 10 pm near Salimgarh Fort in Chandni Chowk, they said.

“A maximum of 30 food trucks or vans will be permitted at a time. Each applicant may be allowed up to seven mobile units with different menus. The preferred vehicle size is approximately 7×5 feet, and the suggested colors are red, blue, or yellow,” an official told PTI.

Initially planned to involve local street vendors holding a Certificate of Vending (CoV), the civic body had invited applications earlier this year.

However, due to a poor response and concerns over the temporary nature of the setup, the MCD has now expanded its outreach to include mobile food trucks and van owners.

As per the civic body’s plan, the market will feature around 50 vending spaces, with spots rotated daily based on the number of eligible applicants. Vendors will also be allowed to bring chairs and tables for their customers to enhance the overall experience.

According to the invitation, vendors will be required to bring in their trucks or vans during operational hours and vacate the space afterward.

To create a lively and welcoming environment, the MCD will install lighting, beautify the area, and provide essential amenities such as toilets, waste bins, and proper garbage disposal, it mentioned.

The initiative is expected to be rolled out in phases, with the first signs of activity visible by July, depending on the final screening process, the official added. PTI NSM NB NB
