Nagpur, Jul 11 (PTI) A court here on Friday granted bail to Minority Democratic Party (MDP) city chief Fahim Khan, a key accused in the March 17 riots case.

Violence erupted in Nagpur city on March 17, 2025, after rumours spread that a `chadar’ or cloth with religious inscriptions had been burnt during protests led by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) demanding the removal of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb’s tomb in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district.

Incidents of stone-pelting and arson took place in several parts of the city, leaving 33 police personnel including three Deputy Commissioners of Police injured.

Khan was booked by Ganeshpeth police under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Explosive Substances Act, the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, the Arms Act, and others related to incitement and unlawful assembly.

His lawyer Ashwin Ingole told PTI that District Judge Ajay Kulkarni granted his client conditional bail of Rs 1 lakh, instructing him to report to the police station every Tuesday and Friday.

Khan will likely walk out of jail on Monday as he has already been granted bail in two other First Information Reports related to the riots filed by Tehsil police and Cyber police stations, the lawyer said.

He was granted bail in the present case as a charge sheet has already been filed and trial has started, advocate Ingole said.

Prosecutor Nitin Telgote told PTI that Khan got bail on the ground of parity (as other accused have got bail) and as a charge sheet has been filed. PTI CLS KRK
