Kochi, May 11 (PTI) A Grade Sub Inspector was arrested for allegedly misbehaving with a woman and demanding a bribe from a doctor while threatening to arraign them in a narcotics case in Elamakkara here on Monday, police said.

According to police, the arrested officer is Mujeeb H, who was posted at the Elamakkara police station.

Officials said Mujeeb allegedly threatened a Kollam native woman with implicating her in a narcotics case after her friend was caught with ganja in Kochi last year.

Mujeeb, who was handling the narcotics case against the woman’s friend, allegedly contacted her after examining the Call Data Records (CDR), police said.

Police alleged that he threatened to implicate her in the case and demanded sexual favours and a bribe.

Following a complaint, police registered a case against Mujeeb on Saturday, after which he went into hiding, officials said.

Police also said another case was registered against him on Sunday for allegedly contacting a doctor, who was also a friend of the narcotics accused, and demanding a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh from him.

Mujeeb allegedly threatened the doctor that he would be arraigned in the case if the money was not paid.

Following a probe, Mujeeb surrendered at the Ernakulam North police station on Monday.

Later, he was shifted to the Elamakkara police station where his arrest was recorded, officials said.

After the cases were registered against Mujeeb, he was suspended from service and a disciplinary probe was launched against him, police added. PTI TBA TBA ROH
