Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 8 (PTI) The Kerala government on Wednesday granted administrative approval of Rs 523 crore for the construction of a 190 MLD water treatment plant in Aluva to address the drinking water shortage in the region, the CMO said.
The project, once implemented, will ensure uninterrupted water supply to the areas under the Kochi corporation as well as the nearby municipalities of Aluva, Elur, Thrikkakara, Kalamassery and Maradu and 13 grama panchayats, the Chief Minister’s Office said in a statement.
The Water Resources Department has granted administrative approval of Rs 523 crore for the project, which is being implemented as part of the Kerala Urban Water Supply Improvement Project that has been undertaken with the financial assistance of the Asian Development Bank, it said.
Chief Minister Satheesan had demanded implementation of this project several times in the state assembly when he was the opposition leader, and it was now being implemented by the UDF government.
The project, which will come up in the 1.57 hectares near the existing water treatment plant in Aluva, is expected to be completed in 15 months, the statement said. PTI HMP ADB
