Srinagar, Aug 3 (PTI) Inspector General of Police (Kashmir Zone) V K Birdi on Monday reviewed the security scenario in Kashmir in the backdrop of recent terrorist attacks in the valley.
A detailed review of the recent security developments, emerging challenges and the measures adopted to effectively counter them was carried out during the meeting, a police spokesperson said here.
A police head constable was shot dead by a terrorist in Anantnag district on June 22. Days later, two migrant labourers from Chhattisgarh were killed in a terrorist attack at a brick kiln in Kulgam district on July 31.
“Birdi chaired a security review meeting at the Conference Hall of PCR Kashmir in view of forthcoming events and to assess the prevailing security scenario and strengthen the overall security framework across the Valley,” he said.
The officers briefed the IGP Kashmir on the prevailing security situation in their respective jurisdictions.
Emphasising the need for sustained preparedness, Birdi directed all officers to continuously review and strengthen the existing security arrangements and devise robust counter-insurgency strategies, the spokesperson said.
The IGP stressed the importance of seamless coordination among all security agencies for maintaining a proactive and effective security grid.
He also reviewed the security measures in place for the protection of national highways, railway tracks and stations across the valley.
Birdi directed the officers to strengthen security deployments and checkpoints by placing dynamic nakas and increasing foot patrolling, particularly during the night, at vulnerable locations and along inter-district boundaries.
He laid special emphasis on ensuring the safety and security of critical infrastructure and other vulnerable sections, directing officers to take all necessary preventive measures, intensify area domination and maintain close surveillance in sensitive areas to thwart any attempt aimed at disturbing peace or targeting civilians.
Birdi instructed district heads to maintain strict vigilance against anti-national and anti-social elements, enhance intelligence-based operations and closely monitor social media platforms to prevent the spread of misinformation and malicious content that could adversely impact public peace and safety.
