Bengaluru, Aug 28 (PTI) Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Friday directed officials to identify five cities outside Bengaluru for industrial development.
He was speaking at a progress review meeting of the Commerce and Industries Department at his home office here.
The government plans to attract industries to these cities by offering special incentives to investors and creating more job opportunities, the CMO said in a statement.
Shivakumar directed officials to identify five suitable cities with airport connectivity and other necessary infrastructure for the purpose.
To streamline the single-window system for industrial approvals, he directed all concerned departments to process applications within the stipulated timeframe.
He said he would discuss the matter with the respective departmental ministers.
“Under this system, 22 departments and 119 services have been integrated, with an emphasis on digital and timely approvals. Karnataka ranks ninth in the NITI Aayog’s Investor-Friendly Index. The CM directed that measures be taken to improve this ranking further,” the statement said.
According to the statement, measures being taken by states such as Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh to attract investments were discussed.
The meeting discussed reforms expected by investors from the state, it said.
Officials said Karnataka had ranked third in attracting investments worth Rs 5.58 lakh crore in the manufacturing sector over the past three years, it added.
Special incentives are being offered for investments in semiconductors, aerospace and defence, clean mobility, cell manufacturing and other emerging sectors, it said.
Discussions were held with 80 CEOs at a consultative meeting titled ‘Utpadana Manthana’ (Manufacturing Churn). Of the 55 suggestions received, 35 have already been addressed, the statement added. PTI AMP SSK
