Bengaluru, Sep 23 (PTI) The Karnataka Legislative Assembly on Wednesday congratulated veteran actor Anant Nag, who was awarded the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, with members across the party line hailing his contribution to Indian cinema.
Members of both the Treasury and Opposition benches lauded Nag’s illustrious career and urged the state government to organise a civic reception in his honour.
Nag, who represented Malleshwaram as an MLA in 1994, had also served as the minister in charge of Bengaluru Development in the J H Patel government.
Members said Nag’s contributions extended beyond cinema and highlighted his role in public life and the development of Bengaluru.
President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday conferred the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke award to Nag at Ekta Nagar in Gujarat’s Narmada district.
Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara, Leader of Opposition R Ashoka and several legislators from across parties spoke hailing Nag, his contributions to films and the society at large.
BJP MLA Munirathna recalled his association with the actor, saying his first film as a producer starred Nag.
“He’s one of the few who chose to exit politics, as most people who enter it don’t leave,” he said, as he remembered his days with Nag as a politician.
He also credited Nag with introducing municipal bonds to raise funds for Bengaluru, laying the foundation for the development of J P Park and establishing Sanket Studio to support the Kannada film industry. PTI KSU KH
