Lucknow, Jul 25 (PTI) Around 250 defence forces aspirants from across Lucknow, on the eve of Kargil Vijay Diwas on Saturday, paid homage at Smritika War Memorial in Lucknow Cantonment to the bravehearts who made the supreme sacrifice during the 1999 War.
According to an official statement, a course-ending parade of 127 officers, including five from friendly foreign countries, was also held at the Officers Training College, Army Medical Corps Centre and College, Lucknow, on successful conclusion of their training on Saturday.
The visitors experienced a stirring light and sound show, reliving the glorious saga of courage, valour and sacrifice of the Indian Armed Forces, it said.
A visit to the realistic battlefield bunker offered them a rare glimpse into the soldier’s life, inspiring a deeper appreciation of the commitment, hardships and unwavering resolve, the statement said.
The event served as a heartfelt tribute to the heroes of Kargil while igniting a renewed spirit of patriotism and national pride amongst the youth, it said.
Kargil Vijay Diwas commemorates the culmination of Operation Vijay — the name of India’s limited war against Pakistan following the latter’s infiltration in the Indian territory — on July 26, 1999.
Meanwhile, the Course Ending Parade was also held at Officers Training College, Army Medical Corps Centre and College, Lucknow on successful conclusion of Medical Officers Basic Course (MOBC)-258, imparting intensive combat medical support training to young Armed Forces Medical and Dental Officers.
The course comprised 127 officers, including five from Friendly Foreign Countries and 37 lady officers with Tri-Services representation.
The Course Ending Parade was reviewed by Major General Kanwarjit Singh, Officiating Commandant of AMC Centre and College and OIC Records.
Captain Shivam Agarwal was adjudged the “Best All Round Officer” of the course and was awarded the Commandant’s “Rolling Trophy” and Captain Sahil Thakur was also awarded the Major Laishram Jyotin Singh, Ashok Chakra Memorial Trophy for being adjudged the “Best Officer in Field Events”.
A large number of Armed Forces Medical Services officers witnessed the parade along with more than 200 proud parents and relatives of the course officers, the statement said. PTI NAV SHS
