Ranchi, Apr 15 (PTI) The Jharkhand BJP on Wednesday congratulated Samrat Choudhary after he became the first leader of the saffron party to be Bihar chief minister, even as the Congress called it an “insult” of people’s mandate.

State BJP president Aditya Sahu said it is a moment of new resolve and energy for the people of Bihar.

“I am fully confident that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Rajya Sabha MP Nitish Kumar, the NDA government will take Bihar, the land of valour, knowledge, and rich traditions, to new dimensions of development, good governance, and public welfare,” he said a statement.

Leader of Opposition in Jharkhand assembly, Babulal Marandi, added: “Bihar will succeed in becoming a corruption-free, secure, and prosperous state under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leadership of Samrat Choudhary.” Meanwhile, Jharkhand Congress leader Dipika Pandey Singh asserted that the development was an insult to the people of Bihar.

“We had heard a slogan in Bihar – ‘pachis se tees, phir se Nitish’ (from 2025-30, it will be Nitish again). Now, you can see where Nitish Kumar is and how BJP treated him. It has been BJP’s practice to decimate regional alliance partners gradually, and Bihar is a glaring example.

“People’s mandate in Bihar was for Nitish Kumar as CM. But, the BJP insulted it,” Singh, the Jharkhand Rural Development Minister, told reporters.

BJP leader Samrat Choudhary was on Wednesday sworn in as the 24th Chief Minister of Bihar, in the first instance of a saffron party member making it to the top post in the state. Bijendra Prasad Yadav and Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, both from the JD(U), also took oath on the occasion. PTI SAN RBT
