JK Police destroy cannabis plantation on over 53 kanals of land

Jammu, May 13 (PTI) Police have launched a massive crackdown on the cultivation of cannabis and destroyed the crop grown in over 53 kanals of land in Doda and Samba districts of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Wednesday.

Doda Police carried out a series of anti-drug operations across different parts of the district and destroyed wild cannabis cultivation spread over nearly 36 kanals of land, they said.

A major destruction drive was conducted in the Nagri, Tondwah and Ghat areas, where wild cannabis cultivation spread over approximately 15 kanals of land was destroyed, they added.

Similarly, police teams also carried out a special drive and uprooted wild cannabis cultivation spread over approximately three kanals of land in Kashtigarh, two kanals in Chamote and Goha areas, and one kanal each in Billawas, Bagla and Pul Doda, they said.

Police teams also carried out a special anti-narcotics drive under Dessa Police Station, during which wild cannabis plants spread on nine kanals were destroyed as part of the district-wide campaign against narcotics, they said.

The action is part of the intensified campaign launched by Doda Police to eradicate the menace of narcotics from society and safeguard the youth from the harmful effects of drug abuse, they said.

Cannabis was also destroyed on over four kanals of land at other places in the district.

In Samba district, police carried out a major operation against a cannabis plantation spread over approximately 10 kanals of government land in Rattwana village, which falls under Ghagwal Police Station limits, they said.

In another such operation, police carried out a special drive in the Phagsoo and Kahila Jamrayi areas, thereby destroying wild cultivation of cannabis plants spread over approximately one kanal of land in Doda, they said.

Similarly, a team conducted a special anti-cannabis drive in the area, where wild growth of cannabis plants spread over approximately three-and-a-half kanals of land was destroyed, they said.

In another operation, police destroyed a wild crop of cannabis plants spread over approximately three kanals of land in the Assar and Baggar areas, they said. PTI AB AB KSI KSI
