Jammu, Apr 19 (PTI) An illumination mortar shell was recovered from an open field near the Border Out Post (BOP) along the International Border in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, officials said. The illumination round, meant to create artificial light over a large area at night, was noticed by a patrolling party of village defence guards in village Bhakha Chak near BOP Kandral in Ramgarh sector, they said, adding that a police party rushed to the spot and seized the shell. Meanwhile, Samba Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anuj Kumar conducted a comprehensive tour of Ramgarh sector on Sunday to review security and policing measures in border areas. He directed security forces to step up patrols and surveillance along potential infiltration routes, while ordering the establishment of random night checking points and ambushes at identified vulnerable locations to bolster security along the border belt. During the visit, the SSP inspected Ramgarh Police Station, where a detailed review of ongoing investigations and crime control measures was undertaken, a police spokesman said. He directed officers to maintain proper surveillance over criminal elements and take all necessary steps to curb criminal activity, particularly organised crime groups and gangsters, to ensure the general public feels safe and secure. Kumar inspected checkpoints, border police posts, including Koulpur and Kamore and interacted with police personnel, directing them to remain vigilant while performing their duties. The tour also included visits to Border Security Force (BSF) outposts, including BoP Tanwar situated along the International Border, the spokesman said. Interacting with the personnel, the SSP encouraged them to remain motivated and committed to their duties. Kumar stressed operational coordination with sister agencies and effective area domination.

He underscored the importance of the reinforcement of border checkpoints, joint patrolling and area domination with the Army and Central Armed Police Forces and the positioning of quick reaction teams at strategic locations around the clock, the spokesman said. PTI TAS TAS MPL MPL
