Ranchi, May 3 (PTI) Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Sunday expressed anguish over frequent delays of passenger trains on the Chandil-Tatanagar rail section and urged Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to resolve the issue immediately.
He also urged Vaishnaw to prioritise passenger trains over freight trains on the section under the Chakradharpur division of South Eastern Railway.
“The condition of the Chandil-Tata rail section has now become unacceptable. For the past two years, passenger trains have been running hours late consistently, while freight trains continue to move uninterrupted on the same track.
“This is affecting all rail passengers, especially thousands of daily commuters, workers, students, and professionals from Jharkhand,” Soren posted on X.
He said this was not just an operational issue, but a question of setting priorities. “Does the railway consider the time of Jharkhand’s people as valuable as freight transport is for the country’s economy?” The chief minister urged Vaishnaw to prioritise passenger trains on the section. “Priority should be given to passenger trains on the Chandil–Tata section and an immediate resolution to the problem of train delays must be ensured,” Soren added.
He sought completion of pending railway infrastructure projects in a time-bound manner. “No compromise can be accepted on the convenience and dignity of rail passengers in the country and the people of Jharkhand.” In April, JD(U) supporters led by MLA Saryu Roy staged a sit-in outside the main entrance of Tatanagar station to protest against frequent delays in the running of trains.
The Chakradharpur division of the South Eastern Railway had assured protesters that measures were underway to improve rail infrastructure and restore punctuality of passenger trains passing through Jharkhand’s Tatanagar station. PTI SAN NSD
