Kolkata, Apr 26 (PTI) Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Sunday accused the BJP of “poisoning communal harmony” in the country and urged people of Bengal to give the party a “befitting reply” in the ongoing Assembly elections.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a roadshow in Howrah in support of the ruling Trinamool Congress, Soren said, “The BJP has vitiated and ruptured communal fabric in the country and is trying to spread toxicity among people.” The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) chief, whose party is an ally of the Trinamool Congress, appealed to voters to back the ruling TMC in West Bengal to safeguard secular values and social cohesion.
Soren alleged that divisive politics pursued by the BJP has created unrest and weakened the social fabric, and said it is important to defeat such forces democratically.
Campaigning alongside local TMC leaders, he expressed confidence that people of the state would vote in favour of the Trinamool Congress to ensure continuity of development and communal harmony.
About criticism against both TMC and BJP by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi a day back, Soren said: “Every political party is undertaking its own campaign and airing its own views, but JMM stands by Mamata Banerjee and her policies and her fight against the communal forces like BJP in the state and country.” PTI SUS RG
