Ranchi, Jul 22 (PTI) The police on Wednesday arrested five people, including a senior official of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC), for their alleged involvement with the irregularities in various competitive examinations conducted by the Commission, the CID said.

The arrests were made a day after a raid conducted jointly by the Crime Investigation Department (CID) and the Ranchi police at the JPSC office on Tuesday.

“With the assistance of the Ranchi Police, the Crime Investigation Department raided the JPSC office and various locations across the state to collect evidence,” the CID said in a statement.

On the basis of evidence collected during the investigation, five people were arrested.

They are Shweta Kumari Gupta, the Deputy Controller of Examinations, and Ramveer Singh, the Director of TSR Data Processing Private Limited, and three others, the details of whom were not provided by the CID.

The accused have been booked under multiple sections of the BNS and the Jharkhand Competitive Examination (Measures for Prevention and Remedy of Unfair Means in Recruitment) Act, 2023, the statement said.

The five were later sent to judicial custody, it said.

An FIR against the accused has been registered at the CID Police Station.

Meanwhile, a rumour about the resignation of JPSC Chairman L Khiangte following the raid in the commission’s office was doing the rounds since Tuesday.

There was, however, no official confirmation about it, though the Congress, a constituent of the ruling coalition, and the opposition spoke about it during the day.

State Congress spokesperson Sonal Shanti said, “The government of Jharkhand has fulfilled its responsibilities. As soon as irregularities came to light in JPSC, an investigation began, and the JPSC chairman resigned. The CID probe is also going on.” Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha state president Shashank Raj claimed that under pressure from the opposition party, “the JPSC chairman was hastily made to resign, which itself casts a cloud of suspicion over the entire matter”.

Workers of the BJP and the BJYM on Wednesday escalated their protest against the alleged irregularities in the state civil services exam results by demonstrating in front of the JPSC office and demanding a CBI probe into all disputed recruitment examinations.

The JPSC on Wednesday cancelled an upcoming exam three days before it was scheduled to begin.

“Important information regarding the schedule for various examinations conducted by Jharkhand Public Service Commission. Jharkhand Combined Civil Services Main (Written) Competitive Examination-2025 which was scheduled from 25.07.2026 to 27.07.2026 is postponed till further orders due to unavoidable reasons,” the JPSC said in a statement.
