Latehar, Apr 22 (PTI) The police arrested two brothers for allegedly strangling an elderly man to death over suspicion of practising sorcery in Jharkhand’s Latehar district, an officer said on Wednesday.

The arrests were made on Tuesday, a day after the incident happened in village Lai within the Garu police station area.

The deceased was identified as Tetra Oraon (62), and his son lodged a complaint with the police in this regard.

“The accused, aged 45 and 34 years, confessed to the crime. They told the police they suspected that the victim had been practising sorcery, which caused the death of their two family members. They also had a land dispute with the victim,” said Jay Prakash Sharma, the officer in charge of Garu police station.

On April 20, they got Oraon inebriated, strangled him to death, and dragged his body some distance down the road, Sharma said, adding that the police recovered the rope used in the crime.

The brothers were forwarded to judicial custody on Wednesday. PTI RPS RPS NN
