New Delhi: Top Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorist Mohammad Ismail Alvi, also known as Saifullah, Adnan and Lambu, was killed in an encounter with security forces Saturday.
Alvi, a Pakistani national and an Afghan war veteran, is believed to have been the fabricator of the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) used in the 2019 Pulwama terror attack.
Sources in the security establishment said that based on pinpointed intelligence generated by a central agency, a team of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Army and CRPF launched an operation in Nagberan-Tarsar forest area of Pulwama.
The encounter began Saturday morning in which two JeM terrorists were killed, one of whom was identified as 6.5-feet tall Alvi, commonly referred to as Lambu by both the security forces and terrorists.
“Mohd Ismal Alvi @ Lamboo @ Adnan was from family of Masood Azhar. He was involved in conspiracy and planning of Lethpora Pulwama attack and figured in chargesheet produced by NIA,” the Jammu and Kashmir Police announced on Twitter.

The second terrorist has been identified as Sameer Dar, also known as Hanjila Jihadi. He was also an accused in the Pulwama terror attack.
Alvi’s involvement in Pulwama attack
Sources said that Alvi, who had infiltrated into India in late 2018, was the person who fabricated the IED that was used in the Pulwama bombing.
They said that he was believed to have been killed in an encounter in 2020 but his identity could not be ascertained as the body was charred completely.
He was believed to have been killed because the intelligence agencies had got inputs about the presence of Lambu. However, he had gone underground following the encounter.
Sources said his movement in the South Kashmir area again came under notice later.
Alvi was a close associate of another Pakistani terrorist Abdul Rehman, also known as Fauji and Idrees bhai. Fauji was killed in an encounter with security forces in June last year.
He was also involved in the Pulwama terror attack. Security forces had initially confused Fauji with Lambu, sources said.
Sources described Lambu’s killing as a major win for the security forces. Lambu, who hails from Bhawalpur in Pakistan, was involved in the recruitment and radicalisation of youth in South Kashmir.
