New Delhi, Aug 21 (PTI) A day after being attacked during a public hearing at her camp office, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday announced that her ‘Jan Sunwai’ programme would be held in every assembly constituency and not restricted to her residence only.

Asserting that she can never stop fighting for the interests of the people of the national capital, she stressed that “every moment of my life and every particle of my body is dedicated to Delhi”.

“Despite all these unexpected blows, I will never abandon Delhi,” the chief minister said in Hindi on X, and posted a photo of her sitting at her office desk, signing a document.

“Now, public hearings will not only be held at my home but also in every assembly of Delhi. Your chief minister at your doorsteps,” she added.

Recalling the teachings of her father, Gupta said women have double the strength to fight through difficulties and have to pass countless tests to prove themselves. “I am ready too!” she emphasised.

“When I was in college, my father gave me a car to drive. One day, a big accident happened. I got scared and became afraid to even touch the car again. Then Papa said that accidents happen in life, but you can’t stop out of fear. You can’t stop walking,” the chief minister recalled.

Reminiscing about her father’s advice, Gupta said she faced another accident, but she “can never stop fighting for the interests of Delhiites”.

She ended her post with inspiring lines from a Hindi poem that roughly translates to, “Let obstacles come our way, let dark clouds of catastrophe gather/Even if embers burn beneath our feet, even if flames rain upon our heads/ With our own hands, smiling, we must set the fire walk together.

Gupta was attacked during a ‘Jan Sunwai’ programme at her camp office in the Civil Lines area on Wednesday morning, with her office terming the assault a part of a “well-planned conspiracy to kill her”.

The accused, Sakriya Rajeshbhai Khimjibhai (41), a resident of Rajkot in Gujarat, was arrested and booked under attempt-to-murder and other charges. PTI SLB BUN SLB NSD NSD
