Jammu, April 22 (PTI) Police rescued a woman who tried to end her life by jumping into the Chenab River from a bridge in Doda on Wednesday, officials said.

They identified the woman as Fatima Begum, wife of Faiz Ahmed and a resident of Dalwas in Chanderkote Tehsil, Ramban district, who attempted to jump into the river.

When police stationed at the bridge saw the woman, they became suspicious and rushed to rescue her.

State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel also joined the rescue operation, averting a major tragedy, they said.

Police officials shifted the rescued woman to the women’s police station in Doda and counselled her.

After taking legal action, they sent her home. PTI AB ASD ASD
