Chandigarh, Apr 26 (PTI) Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar on Sunday wrote to Union minister Pralhad Joshi alleging irregularities in the purchase of old gunny bags by the state government and seeking a probe into the matter.
In his letter to the consumer affairs, food and public distribution minister, Jakhar claimed that the AAP government, which calls itself “fiercely honest”, bought old gunny bags at Rs 43.89 each when they were available in the market for Rs 22 each.
This points towards a scam, which should be investigated, he said.
“Under the Decentralised Procurement Scheme (DCP), the Punjab government is using old gunny bags for filling the procured wheat,” the BJP leader said.
However, the expenditure on these old gunny bags raises serious concerns of corruption, he charged.
“In reality, old gunny bags are available in the market at about Rs 22 per bag, whereas the Punjab government is reportedly procuring them at approximately Rs 43.89 per bag. This indicates a possibility of large-scale commission-taking and corruption in the entire process,” Jakhar claimed.
“Therefore, I request that this matter be investigated immediately so that the scam can be exposed and the guilty can be brought within the ambit of the law,” he said. PTI CHS DIV DIV
