Jaipur, Apr 30 (PTI) ITBP Assistant Commandant Raghunath Singh Bhati, who was injured in a road accident in West Bengal earlier this month, was cremated with full military honours at his native village Adbala in Jaisalmer district on Thursday.

Bhati, a resident of Adbala village, succumbed to his injuries at a military hospital in Delhi on Wednesday, 16 days after the accident that occurred on April 13 while he was returning from election duty in West Bengal.

His mortal remains were brought from Delhi to Phalodi airbase by air and then taken by road to his village.

Hundreds of villagers gathered along the route, showering flowers and raising slogans of “Bharat mata ki jai” and “Raghunath Singh amar rahe” to pay tributes to him.

The funeral procession witnessed an outpouring of grief, with roads decorated with rangoli carrying messages honouring the officer. The body, wrapped in the tricolour, was accorded a guard of honour by Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel before the last rites were performed.

His sons, Bhanu Pratap Singh and Surya Pratap Singh, lit the funeral pyre as family members, local representatives and officials paid their last respects.

Officials said Bhati had sustained serious injuries, including fractures and internal trauma, in the accident and had been undergoing treatment in Delhi since then. PTI AG SKY SKY
