New Delhi: The police in Faridabad are on the lookout for two gunmen in connection with the killing of Surajbhan alias Ballu, who is said to have links with jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.

Ballu, a relative of gangster Kapil Sangwan as well as an active member of his gang, was killed Tuesday evening by the two gunmen in Sector-11, Faridabad. The duo had arrived in a white colour SUV and fired 20-25 rounds at Ball in front of a gym.

A police officer told ThePrint that Ballu was living with a brother-in-law in Faridabad for the last few months and was a fitness freak who used to go to the gym daily. “It could be possible that killers did a recce of Ballu and confirmed his daily schedule before plotting this murder,” the officer said.

Kapil Sangwan alias Nandu’s gang is known for extortion cases in Delhi and Haryana and was working as a syndicate of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Sangwan is said to be based in the UK and has Interpol’s red notice issued against him.

The police have registered a First Information Report in the early hours of Wednesday under Sections 302 (murder), 34 (offence with similar intention) of the IPC and Section 25 of the Arms Act.

They are looking into the angle of inter-gang rivalry in this murder and are scanning the footage from CCTV on adjacent streets to ascertain the route the killers took to flee the spot. “It could be possible that Ballu was a victim of inter-gang rivalry,” the Faridabad Police said in a statement.

Manjeet Mahal angle

In 2016, the Delhi Police had arrested Manjeet Mahal, who was on number 2 of the most wanted gangster list of the police force. He was involved in multiple killings in Delhi and Haryana and ran extortion rackets in both states.

Mahal is currently lodged in Tihar jail. He had allegedly killed the brother-in-law of Sangwan in 2015 following which Sangwan took ‘revenge’ by killing Mahal’s father in 2015.

ThePrint has learnt that Surajbhan alias Ballu was the sole witness in the murder of Sangwan’s brother-in-law but he refused to give a statement in court.

A police officer in Faridabad suggested that Mahal himself could have hatched this conspiracy to eliminate the sole witness of the 2015 murder.
