New Delhi: The decomposed body of Punjabi influencer Kanchan Kumari aka Kamal Kaur was found inside a car in Bathinda.

The car was found Wednesday evening inside the parking lot of Adesh University. “She (the victim) is from Ludhiana. Her family is on the way to Bathinda. We will speak to the family. Investigation is looking at all angles,” Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Bathinda, Amneet Kondal told ThePrint.

The SSP confirmed to ThePrint that a murder case was registered in the matter.

“The body is in a decomposed state. We are awaiting autopsy results to ascertain the cause of death,” the SSP said, adding that the probe so far suggests that the vehicle belongs to the victim and is registered in Ludhiana.

Sources in the police, however, said that initial investigation hints that the vehicle had a fake number plate. They added that Kaur could have been killed elsewhere and that the body was brought to the parking lot and dumped there.

Kaur used the identities of ‘Kamal Kaur Live’ and ‘Kama: Kaur Bhabi’ on social media. In the first account on Instagram, she has 15.7K followers. The other account has 385K followers. The social media influencer has in the past stirred controversy with videos.

In October last year, Kaur is believed to have faced certain threats from fugitive Canada-based gangster Arsh Dalla over posting “vulgar” content on social media. In an audio recording reported by a media publication, Dalla is purportedly heard saying that she spreads “filth” through her videos and even threatened to harm her family members if she doesn’t remove the contents.

However, so far, investigators said that no complaint was filed at that time.

According to the sources, Kaur had informed her family that she was heading to Bathinda for an event on 9 June. “CCTV footage shows that the car entered the parking lot in the morning of 10 June. A person is seen driving the car. Only after autopsy, we will know the cause and time of death,” a source in the Punjab Police said.
