(Reuters) – Indian sports utility vehicle maker Mahindra and Mahindra reported its highest monthly sales in the current fiscal year to dealers in October, boosted by festive season sales.

The company, one of the country’s top SUV-makers by market share, reported a 25% year-on-year rise in domestic car sales to dealers mostly supported by new launches such as the ‘Thar ROXX’.

Indians typically make big-ticket purchases during festivals as it is both auspicious and they get big discounts. This year, the month-long festive period began early October.

“Positive momentum continued across the SUV portfolio through the festive season,” the company said in a statement.

Mahindra’s car portfolio is comprised entirely of SUVs and the company has reported a rise in dispatches to dealers every month this financial year ending March 2025, highlighting a trend of increasing sales for the larger, premium cars compared to the small-car segment.

Market leader Maruti Suzuki, its closest rival Hyundai India, are yet to report their sales numbers.
