MUMBAI (Reuters) – India’s government approved the re-appointment of Reserve Bank of India deputy governor M. Rajeshwar Rao for a period of one year starting Oct. 9 or until further orders, it said late on Friday.

Rao was first appointed deputy governor in September 2020 for a period of three years and was given a one year extension in 2023. With the latest re-appointment, Rao would serve a total of five years in the position.

Rao is currently in charge of the RBI’s departments of regulation, risk monitoring, communication, enforcement and legal.
