(Reuters) – India’s benchmark indexes opened flat on Friday, after logging their best session in six weeks the previous day, as markets look to corporate earnings starting next week for directional triggers.
The Nifty 50 shed 0.07% to 24,171.9 points as of 9:20 a.m. IST, while the BSE Sensex was down 0.09% to 79,866.66.
Seven of the 13 major sectors logged losses at the open. The broader, more domestically focussed smallcaps and midcaps rose about 0.5% each.
The Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex logged their best session since Nov. 22, 2024 on Thursday, led by financials and autos on expectations of a pickup in corporate earnings.
Other Asian markets rose on the day while Wall Street equities closed lower overnight.
