India to host Asia-Oceania satellite users’ conference

The IMD and Ministry of Earth Sciences to welcome 150 attendees between 4 and 6 December in New Delhi.

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD), in collaboration with the Ministry of Earth Sciences, is set to host the 14th Asia-Oceania Meteorological Satellite Users’ Conference (AOMSUC-14) in New Delhi between 4 and 6 December. The conference will bring together approximately 150 participants from various countries to discuss the latest advancements in satellite remote sensing and their application in meteorology and climatology, a PIB release Sunday announced.

Dr. Jitendra Singh, the Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Earth Sciences, will inaugurate the conference on December 4th at Vigyan Bhavan. Other prominent attendees include Dr. M. Ravichandran, Secretary of the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Sh. Nilesh M. Desai, Director of the Space Application Centre (ISRO), and Dr. Allen Huang, Chair of AOMSUC.

The AOMSUC-14 aims to highlight the significance of satellite observations, promote advancements in satellite technology, and foster collaboration between satellite operators and users. The conference will feature oral and poster presentations, panel discussions, and a training workshop on applying satellite data to meteorology and climatology, the release further explained.

The conference is preceded by a two-day international training workshop on December 2nd and 3rd at IMD, New Delhi, for 70 trainees from various countries. Following AOMSUC-14, an international coordination meeting of members from Regional Association (RA)-II and RA-V countries will be held at IMD on December 7th.

The AOMSUC series, first held in Beijing, China in 2010 is a notable event for meteorologists, earth scientists, satellite operators, and students across the Asia-Oceania region and globally, the release added.
