India commits to democratizing AI, Vaishnaw outlines plans for inclusive growth and innovation

New Delhi: India is committed to democratizing artificial intelligence (AI) and fostering its inclusive growth across the nation, stated Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, in a reply to a Parliament Question on AI governance and development today. He outlined the seven pillars of the India AI Mission, emphasizing its focus on inclusivity and innovation, a PIB press release stated.

One of the key highlights was the Future Skills Platform, developed in collaboration with industry partners. The platform has already registered 8.6 lakh candidates seeking training aligned with the latest industry requirements.

Further demonstrating the government’s commitment to decentralizing technological advancements, Vaishnaw announced the expansion of AI Data Labs, 5G Labs, startups, and Semiconductor training facilities to Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. He cited AI Data Labs in Gorakhpur, Lucknow, Shimla, Aurangabad, Patna, Buxar, and Muzaffarpur.

The Minister stressed that AI’s most significant applications will be in sectors that directly impact people’s lives, such as agriculture, education, healthcare, logistics, and finance. He reaffirmed India’s dedication to leading the way in responsible AI development globally.
