Ranchi, Apr 22 (PTI) The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a heatwave alert for four districts of Jharkhand for Thursday, and forecast light to moderate rain in several regions of the state for three days starting from April 24.

The mercury is currently ranging from 34.6 to 43.4 degrees Celsius across the state.

A heatwave alert was issued for four districts for Thursday — Dumka, Jamtara, Dhanbad, and Bokaro — located in the north-eastern part of the state, the IMD said.

The IMD also said that light to moderate rain, accompanied by gusty winds of 30-50 kmph, thunderstorms, and lightning strikes are likely to occur on April 24, 25 and 26.

On Friday, 14 northeastern districts are likely to be affected by the rain, while northeastern, southern, and some central districts may witness rainfall on April 25.

On Sunday, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain across all districts of the state, according to the IMD bulletin issued at 1 pm on Wednesday.

“No significant change is likely in the maximum temperatures over the next three days. Thereafter, over the next two days, they are likely to decline by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius. A ‘yellow’ (be updated) alert for heatwave and light to moderate rain has been issued,” said Abhishek Anand, the deputy director at IMD Ranchi.

The highest temperature was recorded in Daltonganj in Palamu at 43.4 degrees Celsius in the last 24 hours, followed by Jamshedpur and Chaibasa, both recording 42.4 degrees Celsius. PTI RPS NN
