Beed, Jun 19 (PTI) An MLA from Maharashtra’s Beed district has questioned why the authorities did not take action against the Georai tehsildar after an FIR was registered against 19 persons, including many revenue officials, in an alleged illegal sand mining case.
Local MLA Vijaysinh Pandit claimed on Thursday that illegal excavation of sand worth nearly Rs 100 crore was being carried out in the Godavari river basin under the guise of supplying sand to beneficiaries of government housing schemes.
He said he had earlier demanded a probe by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) into the alleged racket, following which the district administration initiated action, referring to the registration of the FIR, naming 19 persons, on Wednesday.
“However, we want to know why no action has been taken against the Georai tehsildar,” Pandit said, claiming that sand was being illegally extracted from the Godavari riverbed near Shri Kshetra Rakshasabhuvan in collusion with revenue and police officials.
Pandit said he would raise the issue during the upcoming winter session of the state legislature and, if necessary, approach the court for further legal intervention.
The district administration has not yet responded to the MLA’s allegations. PTI COR NR
