Indore, Aug 3 (PTI) Authorities on Monday demolished an illegal old-age home in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore days after a video of elderly women being beaten at the facility surfaced on social media, triggering outrage, officials said.
According to officials, a probe was initiated against the facility, located in the Banganga police station area, after a video surfaced on social media, in which a 14-year-old boy could be seen beating up women inmates with a stick.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate Nidhi Verma said the inquiry found that the home was being operated from an 8,000-square-foot municipal property that had been encroached upon for the last four years.
Following the probe, Neelam Dubey, who was operating the home, handed the property back to the Indore Municipal Corporation and the facility was razed, she said.
Officials said the administration had sealed the old-age home on July 30 and shifted its 31 inmates to other government-recognised facilities run under the Social Justice Department.
The inquiry also found that the home was being run without the mandatory statutory permissions, they said.
The boy, who allegedly assaulted the elderly inmates, was produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), which has taken him into protective care. PTI HWP LAL ARU
