Devbhumi Dwarka, Apr 30 (PTI) The Devbhumi Dwarka administration in Gujarat carried out a demolition drive to remove illegal structures, resulting in approximately 2,400 square metres of government land valued at Rs 2.27 crore getting cleared, an official said on Thursday.
All illegal structures were located about 200 to 400 metres from the coastline, while one structure was as close as 50 metres, Devbhumi Dwarka sub-divisional magistrate Amol Awate said.
“Keeping national security in mind, the administration carried out demolition of illegal structures along the coastal belt and removed illegal structures on approximately 2,400 square metres of government land with an estimated value of of Rs 2.27 crore. One structure was located in the periphery of defence land in Okha, which too was removed,” Awate informed.
The district administration, along with the police, following due process as directed by the Supreme Court, demolished unauthorized religious structures built along the seashore and the Okha-Dwarka highway, he added.
Notices had been issued to the encroachers two months prior to the action, Awate said.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Sagar Rathod said the demolition drive was conducted peacefully across the district. PTI KVM PD BNM
