New Delhi: A loud and cheerful “I love you!” resounded through the air as Arvind Kejriwal addressed the media and a sizeable crowd of supporters for the first time after the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) stamped its third consecutive victory in the Delhi assembly polls Tuesday.
According to latest trends, AAP is leading in 63 out of 70 assembly seats while the BJP is ahead in seven constituencies.
Kejriwal opened his speech by raising slogans of Inquilab Zindabad and Bharat Mata Ki Jai, after he was garlanded by his party leaders Sanjay Singh and Gopal Rai. Also present on stage with him were Raghav Chadha, who won the seat from Rajindra Nagar, and Kejriwal’s family, while Manish Sisodia was yet to arrive.
While thanking the people for supporting “their son” for the third time, Kejriwal noted that a new kind of politics has emerged from the assembly polls. “People have rewarded the party that built schools, hospitals and provided cheap electricity round-the-clock,” he said.
Kejriwal also dedicated the victory to his supporters, adding that the people of Delhi have voted for “kaam ki rajniti” this time. “This is the victory of every family who trusted me, considered me one of their own, their son, and opened their hearts to us, to each family who now gets free electricity, to those families who now get proper medical treatment, whose children now get good education.”
The chief minister went on to thank his party members and family, announcing that it was also his wife’s birthday today. He ended his short speech by invoking Lord Hanuman and thanking him for the win,“Hanuman ji ne Dilli par yeh meharbaani hitayi hai, unka bhi bahut bahut shukar guzaar hoon.”
Kejriwal then set off an a victory roadshow, which will conclude at the Hanuman Mandir at Connaught Place — the same temple where his first roadshow for his recent campaign ended as well.
