New Delhi: India will become the world’s top three economies in this decade, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Monday, while virtually addressing the Rozgar Mela being held in 45 locations.
Modi handed out 51,000 appointment letters to new recruits at the mela, and promised more jobs as unemployment remains critical to the country’s economy.
Modi said he took full responsibility for predicting India’s place in the top three, adding, “You may think what does this mean to the common man? For any economy to move forward, all its sectors should move forward too. From food to pharma, frm space to start-ups… India’s economy will zoom with overall growth.”
“There is a lot of discussion on the importance of the food-processing industry these days. India’s food processing market stood at Rs 26 lakh crore last year. In the next three to three and a half years, this sector will burgeon to Rs 35 lakh crore,” he said.
He said employment would flow from the overall growth of the country’s sectors, particularly that of its infrastructure. “In the last nine years, we have spent Rs 20 lakh crore on infrastructure. This has opened new opportunities in the connectivity, tourism and hospitality sectors… this potential will translate into more jobs,” Modi added.
Though the Rozgar Mela event, the ministry of Home Affairs has recruited personnel in various central armed police forces, such as the Central Reserve Police force, the Border Security Force, the Shashastra Seema Bal, the Assam Rifles, the Central Industrial Security Force, the Indo-Tibetan border Police, the Narcotics Control Bureau as well as the Delhi Police.
The Prime Minister congratulated the new government recruits, calling them “Amrit Rakshaks” – protectors of the government’s much-vaunted “Amrit Kaal” initiative till 2047.
“You will not only serve the country, but also its people,” Modi told them, encouraging the appointees to focus on physical fitness and yoga to “make the mind stress-free”.
Last week, Modi had told the BRICS Business Forum Leaders’ Dialogue in Johannesburg, that India would soon be a 5 trillion dollar economy and predicted it would be the growth engine of the world.
According to the recent National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) data, India’s unemployment rate has recently declined, as reported by Forbes. The report added: “The unemployment rate for individuals aged 15 years and above in urban areas decreased to 6.8 percent during January-March 2023 from 8.2 percent a year ago.”
