Hamirpur (HP), June 27 (PTI) Amid chants of religious hymns and slogans of “Jai Jagannath”, “Jai Subhadra” and “Jai Baldev”, hundreds of men, women and children particpated in tha annual Lord Jagannath yatra in Himachal Pradesh’s Hamirpur on Friday.
The yatra was flagged off by local MLA Ashish Sharma from the local Satya Narain temple after week-long Bhagwad Katha and culminated at Dangri Math, covering a distance of around 22 kilometers.
Sharma also accompanied the yatra through the Hamirpur town and exhorted the need of such big functions all over India as they lead to spiritual enlightenment of masses.
A bhandra was also arranged for devotees on the occasion, with a large number of people from Hamirpur, Una, Kangra, Mandi and other districts taking part in the procession.
Addressing the congregation, Swami Vishnu Prashadji Maharaj said that Bhagwad Katha was aimed to purify the mind and soul of people from ill feelings, guiding devotees closer to Lord Krishna.
He said that in the present circumstances, such kathas were essential for reinforcing the values of Santana Dharma which was facing challenges from certain sections of society, aligned with foreign power. PTI COR BPL OZ OZ
