Shimla, Oct 14 (PTI) The Himachal Pradesh government has constituted a commission to reorganise administrative units, including creating, merging, and bifurcating them, for public convenience and administrative efficiency, officials said on Wednesday.

Justice Dharam Chand Chaudhary (Retired), former Judge of the High Court of Himachal Pradesh, will head the commission for the Re-organisation of Administrative Units as chairperson. Advocate Vishal Panwar and IFS (Retired) Rajesh Sharma will be its members, while the director, land records, Himachal Pradesh will serve as the member secretary.

Additionally, administrative secretaries of the departments of revenue, finance, rural development and Panchayati Raj, forest, public works, Jal shakti and general administration will be special invitees, as and when required, to ensure effective inter-departmental coordination and provide expert inputs.

A state government spokesperson said in a press statement that the commission will examine the existing administrative structure of districts, sub-divisions, tehsils, sub-tehsils, development blocks, and other departmental divisions in Himachal Pradesh. “It will assess the need for creating, merging, bifurcating, or reorganising administrative units, keeping in view population, geographical conditions, accessibility, administrative efficiency and public convenience,” he said.

He said the commission will consult stakeholders, public representatives and concerned departments before making its recommendations. “It will also assess the financial implications, including the infrastructure and manpower requirements for establishing new administrative units. In addition, the commission will recommend measures to optimise resources and streamline the functioning of existing offices without placing an additional financial burden on the state exchequer,” he said.

The spokesperson said the commission will have its headquarters in Shimla.

“The Department of Revenue and the respective Deputy Commissioners will provide the necessary secretarial assistance, records, and demographic data to facilitate its work,” the spokesperson said.

“The Commission will function for six months from the date of notification and submit its final report, along with specific recommendations, to the State Government within the stipulated period,” he said. PTI COR ASD

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
