Sambhal (UP), Apr 26 (PTI) The district administration on Sunday demolished two houses here, while two others homes were voluntarily dismantled by their occupants, officials said, alleging all structures were illegal encroachments on land belonging to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).

Approximately 30 to 32 houses had been constructed on this “illegally-occupied land”, they said.

Two days ago, Sambhal District Magistrate Rajendra Pensiya and Superintendent of Police Krishan Kumar had inspected the Karvaa Serai Gate, which had recently undergone a renovation costing Rs 29 lakh, and issued orders to remove all “illegal encroachments” on land that is part of the Saudhan ka Quila fort, which is an ASI-protected fort, officials said.

Lekhpal (revenue official) Neeraj Kumar said that the fort complex covers 5.5 bighas of ASI-protected land. Of this, 2.5 to 3 bighas had been illegally encroached upon by 30 to 32 individuals, who had constructed houses there, he said.

On Sunday, the houses belonging to two of these individuals were demolished, while two others voluntarily commenced the demolition of their own houses. Others have also been directed to remove their “encroachments” as soon as possible, Kumar added.

He said 15-16 of them do not have any alternative place of residence, so a plot of 200 square yards belonging to the Gram Samaj will be allotted to them within the village. PTI COR NAV SKY SKY
