Chandigarh, Nov 13 (PTI) Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya on Wednesday said the BJP-led dispensation received a “historic and decisive” mandate in the assembly polls which is an expression of the people’s “unwavering trust and faith” in the existing policies and programmes of the government.

Addressing the newly elected members of the House on the first day of the Haryana Assembly’s winter session here, the governor said the BJP’s win in the election indicates that the people support a corruption-free and transparent administration, and inclusive development.

Dattatreya said millions of poor people have benefitted by virtue of saturation of various government schemes, as he asserted the government’s commitment to welfare and upliftment of all backward and deprived sections of society.

“For the first time, the government has instilled in the poor the belief that the government is truly theirs and they are an integral part of it,” he said.

He said the government will increase the amount of all social security pensions based on a scientific formula linking dearness allowance and pensions.

Earlier, the state assembly met on October 25 but the House was adjourned sine die on the same day after the newly elected MLAs were administered oath and the speaker and deputy speaker were elected.

In the polls conducted on October 5, the BJP secured an unprecedented third term in the state, winning 48 seats in the 90-member assembly. The Congress bagged 37 seats, the INLD two while three Independents also won.

The governor expressed confidence that the newly elected legislators will perform their duties with all sincerity and dedication.

“In this 90-member House, 40 members have been elected for the first time,” the governor said, extending a special welcome to them.

He also highlighted that 13 women have been elected to the Vidhan Sabha.

“My government received a historic and decisive mandate in these elections. This mandate is a strong expression of the people’s unwavering trust and faith in the existing policies and programmes of the government. It indicates that people support a corruption-free, transparent administration and inclusive development.

“This mandate is a clear testament to the fact that the people of the state have embraced the government’s policies, expressing their trust and support through their votes,” said the governor.

This is for the first time in the history of Haryana that people have shown trust in a government for the third consecutive time, he said.

The 2024 Haryana Assembly elections have been an election based on trust in ‘Neeti, Niyat, Nishtha aur Nirnay’ (policy, intent, integrity, and decision), he said.

Dattatreya said the government has carried forward a mission of service, security, good governance, cooperation, and upliftment of the ‘Antyodaya’ for the last 10 years. This mandate is an endorsement of that mission, he said.

“This is a mandate that the work of developing Haryana should continue non-stop and we should continue achieving our goals. The government will continue to move forward with the spirit of ‘Rajya ke Vikas se desh ka vikas’,” he added.

“Today, I feel immense satisfaction in saying that my government, over the past 10 years, has worked beyond the narrow mindset of regionalism and family-based politics,” he said in his address.

The governor said the state government focused on “shiksha, swasthya, suraksha, swavalamban aur swabhimaan” (education, health, security, self-reliance, and self-respect), giving new energy and momentum to the state’s development.

The vision of Antyodaya by Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya has not only guided the government but also embodies the core principle of ‘Haryana ek, Haryanvi ek’ in all our efforts.

By following the guiding principle of ‘Sabka saath, sabka vikas, sabka vishwas’ given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, his government provided equal opportunities to everyone to progress in the state, said the governor.

“The prime minister considers the poor, youth, women, and farmers as the four pillars of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (developed India). My government has oriented its policies toward strengthening these pillars,” he said.

“The difference between Haryana a decade ago and Haryana today is crystal clear. Be it per capita income, the development of industries, social security and welfare or the initiation of innovation in agriculture, today Haryana has a strong presence on the national stage in every aspect,” he noted.

For the next five years, working for the betterment of every section and region of the state will be the government’s priority, he said.

Referring to the agriculture sector, the governor said the state government had abolished the outstanding ‘abiana’ (cabal water irrigation charge).

The government is giving a minimum support price on 24 crops, he said.

Governor said the government is committed to securing its legitimate share of water from the Ravi and Beas rivers and completing the Sutlej-Yamuna Link canal.

Continuous and firm advocacy is being done in these issues, he said.

Dattatreya pointed out the positive results of the Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao campaign in raising awareness in the state and said as a result, the gender ratio in Haryana has improved from 871 in 2014 to over 900.

He said the government is committed to providing government jobs to two lakh people. Apart from this, other employment opportunities will be offered to five lakh youths, he said, adding the government is also committed to giving government jobs to every Haryanvi Agniveer.

The governor said that “for all youths who pass the CET (Common Eligibility Test) but do not get a job in one year, honorarium of Rs 9,000 per month up to next two years will be given”.

Dattatreya also said the government is committed to make Haryana a centre of global education and added the state is poised to become a leader in geospatial intelligence and space technology.

On the industrial front, he said along with the traditional sectors, sunrise sectors are also being promoted on mission mode while the NCR region of the state is being developed as a logistics hub.

Efforts will be accelerated to develop Kurukshetra, especially Jyotisar, into a major spiritual centre through Mahabharata themed projects.

The government will revive the Saraswati river by restoring its water flow, the governor said.

He told the MLAs that no obstacle should stand in the way of fulfilling the resolution for ‘Viksit Haryana-Viksit Bharat’.

“Therefore, I am confident that you will make the most of every moment in this august House to prioritise public welfare,” he said. PTI SUN CHS VSD KVK KVK
