Nahan (HP), Aug 13 (PTI) Joginder Habbi, an internationally acclaimed folk artiste credited with reviving and taking several endangered folk traditions of Himachal Pradesh’s Hati community to national and international stages was conferred the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award on Thursday by President Droupadi Murmu in New Delhi.
The award was conferred on Habbi at a grand ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan in recognition of his efforts over the past three decades to preserve and promote the Hati culture of Sirmaur.
Om Prakash Thakur, a renowned cultural activist from Sirmaur’s Anj Bhoj region, said Habbi has spent more than three decades preserving the endangered folk art forms, particularly those associated with the culture ofthe Hati community in Sirmaur district.
Along with his mentor, Padma Shri awardee Vidyanand Saraik, Habbi is known for work to document, preserve and popularise traditional art forms of the Hati community, a Scheduled Tribe, of the Giri-Par region.
These include the celebrated martial dance ‘Thoda’, ‘Hati ki Nati’, ‘Singhtu’, ‘Badhaltu’ and ‘Dagyali’ dances. PTI COR BPL SKY SKY
