Shimla, Aug 21 (PTI) Expressing deep concern over the non-payment of August salaries, employees of the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) have urged the corporation and the state government to immediately release their pending dues, saying the delay has caused financial hardship to employees and their families.

The association also demanded that the state government provide a special financial package to strengthen the corporation’s financial position.

These issues were raised during a virtual meeting of the state executive committee of the association on Friday.

During the meeting, Raj Kumar Sharma, General Secretary of the corporation, noted that both regular and outsourced employees have yet to receive their salaries, despite today being August 21.

“This delay is causing serious financial difficulties for employees and their families. Employees are finding it increasingly difficult to meet routine household expenses, children’s education costs, monthly instalments on housing and other loans, electricity and water bills, medical expenses and other essential financial obligations on time,” he said.

Sharma emphasised that the employees of the tourism corporation are dedicated and responsible in fulfilling their duties.

“Along with regular employees, a large number of outsourced workers are also providing services at the corporation’s various tourism units, hotels, offices and other establishments. In such circumstances, timely payment of salaries is a legitimate right of employees, and unnecessary delays adversely affect their morale and efficiency,” he said.

He further said that the corporation plays an important role in the state’s tourism sector and that the state government needed to provide long-term financial assistance to make the corporation financially stronger and self-reliant. PTI COR MPL MPL

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
