Shimla, Apr 23 (PTI) Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Thursday directed officials to finish the tarring work of utility ducts up to Shimla Club by May 10 and up to Lift by June 15.

Presiding over a meeting of the Public Works Department here, he said that Rs 145 crore was being spent to construct utility ducts, spanning 7 km from Chhota Shimla to Willy’s Park of Shimla town.

He directed the department to expedite the work and complete it within the fixed timeframe, according to a statement issued here.

Shimla was not just the state capital but also a major tourist destination, attracting lakhs of tourists every year, Sukhu said.

The city must be free from clutter of overhead cables to offer better experience for the tourists and this project will be a major attraction to further boost tourists inflow in Shimla, the CM said.

Shimla is known as the queen of hills, and its glory must be maintained, he added.

The utility duct would extend from Chhota Shimla to Willy’s Park, Secretariat via Lok Bhawan to Oak Over and from Sher-e-Punjab through Lower Bazar upto CTO and further upto Willy’s Park.

These ducts would accommodate underground electric and water lines along-with other utility cables and will enhance the aesthetic appeal of the city, the statement said. PTI BPL SKY SKY
