Shimla, Aug 21 (PTI) On the first day of the monsoon session of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly, the BJP on Friday held a protest before the house proceedings and questioned the Congress-led government on its promise of five lakh jobs.

The BJP legislators held posters and raised slogans, further accusing the government of discontinuing schemes meant for employment generation.

Sri Naina Deviji MLA Randhir Sharma alleged that the Sukhu government has failed to fulfil the election promises made to the youth. He said Congress guaranteed one lakh government jobs in its first Cabinet meeting and a total of five lakh jobs over five years. “Yet, the government has failed to deliver on these pledges,” he said.

Sharma claimed that despite completing over three and a half years in office, the government is patting itself on the back for providing only a few thousand jobs – “far short of the promised one lakh”.

He added that many of these appointments were not regular, and youths were being employed through outsourcing, as job trainees or under other temporary arrangements.

The BJP MLA alleged that instead of providing employment to the youth, the government has discontinued several schemes designed to create jobs. “Far from attracting new industries to the state, existing industries are actually moving away,” he claimed.

Sharma also targeted the government over its start-up scheme, pointing out that during the elections, a promise to allocate a budget of Rs 10 crore per assembly constituency for start-ups was made, which would amount to a total scheme value of Rs 680 crore. “But this guarantee, too, remains unfulfilled,” he said. Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
