Shimla, Sep 11 (PTI) Two people were killed when the vehicle they were travelling in plunged into a gorge on the Bharmour-Pathankot highway in Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district, police said on Friday.
The incident occurred on Thursday night, and the deceased were identified as Ravinder Kumar (39) and Vishal Kumar (32), both residents of Bharmaur in Chamba district.
Ravinder and Vishal had taken a taxi to a petrol pump in Lahal to refuel. While returning to Bharmour after midnight, the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle near Dinka Ghar, causing it to plunge into a deep gorge below the road.
When the duo did not return for an extended period and could not be reached by mobile phone, their family members and acquaintances began searching for them.
During the search, the vehicle was found in a wrecked condition in the gorge near Dinka Ghar.
With assistance from locals, both men were retrieved from the gorge and taken to the Civil Hospital in Bharmour for treatment. They were declared dead by doctors after examination.
A police team arrived at the scene after being informed of the incident and initiated an investigation into the cause of the accident. The police have taken possession of the wrecked vehicle and are proceeding with further investigations.
